What was your experience of reading the stories features in the book?

The stories of loss made me cry. The stories on motherhood, made me feel, “Ah I am not alone!” The stories on pets made me want to cuddle my boy, Zen, closer than ever. The romance in a few, made me want to write a poetry to Arun, my left-brained IT husband (who wondered what had gotten into me) when I placed a letter upon his desk. His baffled expression made me laugh, but the very act of writing to him, the first time in several years, made me recognize the deep love we do share.

The stories on moms, made me miss mine dearly. The stories on God, and a love for beyond, left a yearning in me. Stories from students made me smile at the innocence of age, and the ones from people who have been in love for decades, made me wonder upon the wisdom (and agelessness) of love.

How do you see this book impacting the world?

I feel this book has turned out to be a bedside read, where one reads just one story at a time – to make them feel nostalgic, happy, offer catharsis, feel grateful and sometimes even experience unnamed emotions. One thing is for sure… it tugs something deep within you.

I love the diversity of the 111 tales. A love for marathon (and dad) by a runner in Chennai, ex finance head of Amazon talks of how his Ammama is not a person, but an emotion for him; a young student shares how she dealt with the loss her mother in pandemic, through books; and a French teacher talks of her love for knitting.

I also believe this book will be a perfect gift – no matter the occasion. Most hampers we receive carry consumable goods, and I believe this book would be a perfect keepsake, to keep spreading love, warmth and cheer whenever one most needs it.

Is your own story featured here?

Yes, it is. I have experienced miracles in love like never before. It has been so purifying and given a new meaning to me. I talk of how love led me to an end, and a beginning – and transformed me. I talk of my beloved Guru Mahatria, my mother and my daughter – and much more. I wish you find the same catharsis and empowerment that I did, writing it.

What was the greatest challenge in bringing this book to life?

One of the greatest challenges we faced was choosing the 111 stories from all the ones we received. Each one had something to offer the reader – and yet we had to keep the book at a certain length. Saying no to authors whom we didn’t publish wasn’t easy as each of them had poured their heart into their story.

Another thing was to organize so many stories; to edit them (we wanted to do it all by ourselves to ensure the essence was kept alive) – to receive each author’s details, ensure the changes they wanted were incorporated. Every author’s picture has been added and there is a caricature to go for each story, to enhance the experience. By no means was it easy as our effort was multiplied by 111 times – and I think what kept my team and I going was just sheer love to bring a lot more cheer into the world.

What do you see this book doing for the world?

We believe love has become too myopic. For the youth it is seen as romantic love, mainly. Whereas love comes in so many colors, so many forms, so many intangibles. We wish for every person who reads this book to expand their definition of love to include more. And also, to include themselves.

Our tag line is to feel, heal and express love and we hope every reader experiences this through each page of the book.

I don’t think this is a book to be read at one go – rather it is a book to be sipped, slowly, one story at a time, allowing it to find its home in your heart.

What is the back story of this incredible project bringing 111 authors to share their raw and real stories of love?

“The most frequently used word in your conversations on your phone must be love, no?!” said my best friend in jest, as I wrote some insight that I had. I smiled. Must be true, for sure. Love has been everything for me. The reason for me to wake up and do what I do. The reason for my happiest memories, and the deepest hurt. Love inspires me, it empowers me, it sometimes completely debilitates and annihilates me, and yet somehow, is the only reason, I rise once again.

Two years ago, after fifteen years of being married, I conceived for the first time. It was nothing short of a miracle. As someone who is both a word-a-holic, and a work-a-holic, I needed to take it easy (and that was not easy, at all). I couldn’t push myself physically, but emotionally I was charged like never before. Seeing that little seed in my womb grow limbs, grow organs, grow into a complete baby was creating wonders for me and I wanted to somehow express my deepest love and gratitude to the Creator, and the Creation happening within me. In one of those team meetings, someone suggested – since you possibly can’t write a complete book at this stage, how about we all co-author a book? Since you love the number 11 so much, how about 111 stories on love? One thing led to another and suddenly the #Lovemovement was born. Little did we expect that people from across the globe would share their stories. And we certainly didn’t think the stories would be this good, and this transforming. The book grew along with my baby girl, Athyasaa. When I was in my third trimester we launched the movement. A month or so later, stories started pouring in from across the globe. At the time of my delivery (On 11.11.2023, at 11.24 am) the 111 stories started taking shape. And now that she is almost two, we are finally launching this book.
