Therefore, interested individuals are requested to order quickly. The name Mayukh Chowdhury (1926-1996) inevitably brings to mind some exceptionally dynamic images and thrilling sensations. Although primarily a comic book creator, he also wrote stories and novels for children. The fluidity of his language, the creation of thrilling situations, and the magnetic appeal of his stories elevate his creations to another level. From 1926 to 2026; Mayukh Chowdhury has entered his birth centenary year. On this occasion, ‘Book Farm’ has published the ‘Comics and Graphics – Mayukh Chowdhury 100’ issue (Edited by: Bishwadev Gangopadhyay and Swagata Dutta Barman). This edition includes nearly 100 pages of comics, a complete novel, rare writings, detailed discussions on Mayukh’s comics and stories, an evaluation of Mayukh as a person, artist, and writer, along with numerous rare color and black-and-white illustrations and a detailed bibliography of his creative works. There is no doubt that foreign comics still occupy the lion’s share of the Indian market. The reason why Indian comics have not achieved maturity despite a long period of evolution is the lack of original stories and the ignorance of the artists in the local printing industry about the techniques of creating modern comics. In the 1960s, Narayan Debnath illustrated some original stories in addition to popular funny comic characters, and many others followed this path. Yet, Mayukh Chowdhury deserves special importance because primarily realistic illustrated stories came from his hands. Original, attractive, and thrilling stories whose settings ranged from the outskirts of towns to the interiors of four walls, from the pages of history to remote forests… especially the incredibly dynamic images of wild animals showed Bengali comics the way to overcome its immaturity. Satyajit Ray resumed the publication of ‘Sandesh’ in 1961. He had the idea of publishing comics for children. Mayukh Chowdhury brought Satyajit’s idea to fruition. In 1962, ‘Rinshodh’ was published in the pages of ‘Sandesh’. It was a Bengali comic strip in a completely new style. The artist’s name was Prasad Roy, which was another pseudonym of his, just like Mayukh Chowdhury. His real name was Shaktiprasad Roy Chowdhury (or Shaniprasad Roy Chowdhury). Later, he contributed several more comic strips to the pages of ‘Sandesh’, and at the same time, his original story titled ‘Maran Khelara Khelwar’ was published, under the name Mayukh Chowdhury as the author. Later, he started creating comics under the same name.
