What is the syllabus and weightage of UGC NET Paper 1?

UGC NET Paper 1 is common for all candidates and tests teaching and research aptitude. It has 10 units including topics like Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Communication, Reasoning (Maths and Logical), ICT, Higher Education, etc. The paper consists of 50 questions for 100 marks, and each unit carries approximately equal weightage (4-6 questions per unit). There is no negative marking.

Is it necessary to qualify Paper 1 separately from Paper 2?

Yes, you must qualify both Paper 1 and Paper 2 separately. Paper 1 is qualifying in nature, but its marks are also counted in the final merit. You need to score at least 40% (General) or 35% (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) in Paper 1 to be eligible for further consideration.

How can I prepare effectively for Paper 1 along with Paper 2?
